It's not enough to know that something is defective. What matters most is understanding why.

A faulty drive does not always immediately reveal what is wrong. Sometimes the error is obvious, but often the real work only begins after that. For Julian, Electronics Analyst at UNIS Group, the process is all about investigating step by step: determining what is happening, identifying where the problem originates, and finding a reliable solution that will restore the component to proper working order.

Julian has been working at UNIS Group since September 2018. In his role, he analyses and repairs drives. This involves much more than simply taking measurements and performing tests. It requires technical insight, patience, and a genuine determination to understand why something is no longer functioning.

Technical detective work:

Julian’s work can sometimes feel like technical detective work. A drive arrives with a reported error or malfunction, but that does not necessarily make the underlying cause immediately clear. Through measurement, testing, and logical reasoning, he gradually builds a clearer picture of the problem. Sometimes, the cause is identified quickly. On other occasions, he must rule out several possibilities before pinpointing the defect. It is precisely this variety that makes the work so interesting: no two faults are exactly the same.

Looking beyond the error message

As an Electronics Analyst, Julian looks beyond what is immediately visible. It is not only about establishing that something is defective, but, more importantly, understanding why. By identifying the root cause, the repair becomes more reliable, and the component can be returned to the customer with greater confidence. This requires precision and experience. Small details can be significant: an abnormal measurement, a component behaving differently than expected, or a pattern recognised from previous repairs.

What people do not immediately see

Much of Julian’s work takes place behind the scenes, yet it plays a vital role in the entire repair process. Before a drive is fully operational again, a great deal of investigation, testing, and verification has often already taken place. This makes the role of an Electronics Analyst indispensable within UNIS Group.
